Luigi is ‘Investigating perceptions of wildfires’, maybe you can help?
Luigi Marfella, a PhD student at the Department of Geography and Environment at Loughborough University, has been in touch asking if we can help with his research - which focuses on the impact of wildfires on visitors to The Roaches.
Luigi explained:
My doctoral research project consists of studying wildfire effects on rural landscapes both in my home country of Italy and in the UK. In particular, looking at the impacts on the soil properties to better understand its resilience, as well as the social significance of fire on the landscape to improve knowledge of social relationships with fire in rural communities.
My UK study area is The Roaches Nature Reserve, which was impacted on 10 August 2018 by a large wildfire. I am in collaboration with Staffordshire Wildlife Trust for the technical study of the environmental aspects.
I’ve designed a questionnaire survey to explore people's perceptions of wildfire disturbances.
The target audience is mainly users of The Roaches area such as hikers, climbers or simply people who love the great outdoors around the PD National Park.
Can you help Luigi? Studies like this are important to future management of areas we love so much.
The editor loves to hear from you.
