Keele University celebrates links with NHS to mark service’s 75th anniversary
Keele University has marked the 75th anniversary of the National Health Service by lighting up the campus in tribute.
The University has strong links with the NHS for both teaching and research, with leaders paying tribute to colleagues within the service on its 75th birthday.
To mark the occasion the School of Medicine and the Forest of Light on campus were all lit up blue, symbolising the strong connection between the University and the NHS, as well as the NHS flag being flown over Keele Hall.

Last Saturday, 1st July, B arts in Stoke opened its doors to the public, showcasing its community-led arts work in the city.
The day finished with a Teatime Cabaret, hosted by circus performer and sideshow showgirl Eve Elle, with special invited guests too.

💷 11 Stoke-on-Trent community organisations to receive UK Shared Prosperity Funding. The organisations will benefit from a total of £2.1 million from Stoke-on-Trent City Council’s allocation of UKSPF cash. The City Council has been awarded £9,477,820 from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) to deliver projects which support local businesses, improve local spaces and assist residents with employment and skills. The 11 beneficiaries fall under the Community and Place category, one of the three investment priorities identified for the funding.
🖼 New artwork celebrating the 75th anniversary of the NHS has been unveiled in local hospitals. Created by University Hospitals of North Midlands' arts group, the pieces reflect the history and heritage of Staffordshire healthcare. Staff and schoolchildren contributed to the vibrant and detailed artworks, which are now showcased in Royal Stoke University Hospital, County Hospital, and Haywood Hospital. Funding for the project was generously provided by Healthcare Support Staffs Ltd, Transform Schools (Stoke) Ltd, and Regenter Bentilee to support arts and culture in schools and healthcare settings throughout Staffordshire.
🎓 Staffordshire University has received an award from the Ministry of Defence for its strong commitment to the armed forces community. The university has received a Silver Award through the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS), acknowledging its exceptional support and advocacy for the defence and armed forces. The university, an approved provider of degree programs to the MoD since 2004, currently has nearly 2,000 armed forces students worldwide. The university has also updated its HR policies to support reservists in their civilian employment and actively participates in local and regional armed forces committees and charities.
🦋 Staffordshire County Council to develop a long-term strategy for local nature. The Council has been selected as one of the 48 councils nationwide to develop a long-term strategy for nature recovery. As part of the Local Nature Recovery Strategies (LNRS) initiative, the council will collaborate with local authorities, partner organisations, and communities to identify priority areas for conservation. This government-led effort aims to meet national environmental targets and address local environmental priorities. Staffordshire County Council previously made a nature recovery declaration in February 2022, affirming its dedication to restoring and protecting wild habitats and species.
☀️ A new resource aims to help communities prepare for heatwaves. The Heatwave Preparedness resource offers valuable insights, guidance, and resources to help organisations tackle the risks associated with extreme heat. By taking proactive measures and staying informed, it is hoped groups can collectively safeguard their communities. Download the guide created in collaboration with VAST, providing useful information for VCSE organisations and individuals.
