Trip back in time to a Medieval Market in Newcastle
This weekend, Sunday July 16th, 10am to 3pm, Newcastle-under-Lyme will time travel back 850 years to its medieval beginnings to recreate a medieval market, marking the time when in 1173 King Henry II allocated the historic Borough a charter granting “free liberties and customs”, including trading, to the people of the town.
Sunday’s event, organised by The Friends of The Guildhall, includes medieval-themed activities: music, games, stocks, free workshops, involvement from local schools and community groups, and a “Procession of the King”, with Newcastle’s very own ‘symbolic king’ – Neil Baldwin (Nello).
