Richard Buxton, CEO of Stoke on Trent City Centre BID, has been appointed to the board of PABCIS (Partnership Against Business Crime in Staffordshire), marking a strategic move to bolster the fight against business crime.
This partnership aims to create a safer environment for businesses, enhancing the city's security strategies. Buxton's role signifies a commitment to representing and protecting local businesses within this crucial initiative.
Richard said: “Whilst this is a great honour for me personally, more importantly, it gives our City Centre a voice in the leading business crime partnership in the country.”
Life-Saving Donations from Crematorium Recycling
Recycled metals from Bradwell Crematorium, with the consent of bereaved families, have raised £14,000 for the Nathan Butler Memorial Fund.
This fund, named after a young sportsman who passed away from an undetected heart condition, will finance around 200 heart screenings for young individuals at risk of hereditary heart diseases in Newcastle.
The initiative, supported by Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council, aims to prevent similar tragedies through early detection.

Historical Treasures for Staffordshire's New History Centre
Experts at Staffordshire County Council are curating items for the new Staffordshire History Centre's display, selecting from thousands of historical objects.
Key pieces include a 17th-century cap owned by Charles I and a Spider Phaeton carriage from 1890.
Funded by a significant National Lottery Heritage Fund grant, the centre aims to showcase Staffordshire's rich history. The project also involves community outreach, ensuring a wide appreciation and engagement with the region's heritage.
The centre is due to open to the public this autumn.
£4 Million Cancer Centre Development
The University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust's Cancer Centre is set for a £4 million development, funded by UHNM Charity and the Denise Coates Foundation.
The upgrade at the centre at Royal Stoke University Hospital includes a new entrance, pharmacy, group room, private spaces, an information centre, and improved waiting areas, aiming to enhance patient experience.
The project, starting in February, is expected to be completed by December, facilitating better access to treatments and support for cancer patients.
Specialist LGBTQ+ Homelessness Support in Stoke-on-Trent
Courtney Jennings has been appointed as the first LGBTQ+ Caseworker by Honeycomb Group's Concrete service, funded by Stoke-on-Trent City Council and the Government’s Rough Sleeping Initiative.
This role is crucial for providing targeted support within the LGBTQ+ community, including housing advice and advocacy.
The service has also introduced Phoenix House, a new LGBTQ+ supported accommodation scheme, enhancing the support available for individuals facing homelessness, with a focus on those struggling with gender identity and sexuality issues.
Dougie Mac Introduces New Fundraising Events
Dougie Mac has unveiled two new fundraising events for 2024: a 10K Run and a Colour Dash, scheduled for April 13.
The 10K Run, beginning at World of Wedgwood, is designed for both serious runners and those looking to challenge themselves for a good cause. The Colour Dash, aimed at fun-lovers of all ages, will be a vibrant 1K run at Wedgwood Cricket Club, featuring paint stations for a splash of color.
