Lecture at Keele: Colonialism and Collecting, Dr Tristram Hunt
Dr. Tristram Hunt, Director of the Victoria and Albert Museum, will deliver a lecture titled "Colonialism and Collecting" at Keele University.
In this event, part of the ILAS Global Challenge lecture series on 7 February, Dr. Hunt will discuss the ethics of restitution and the importance of provenance research in museums. He advocates for a focus on detailed, trans-national provenance research over treating museums as sites of 'transitional justice' for colonial history.
The lecture will highlight the V&A's approach to handling 'contested heritage' and discuss strategies for cultural equity between the Global North and South.

Authors Seek Stories about Tunstall's Historic Town Hall and Market
David Martin and Lee Wanger are co-authoring a book, "The History of Tunstall Town Hall and Market," set to be published later this year.

Borough Council Advances Towards Net Zero Carbon
Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council is replacing its 'StreetScene' fleet with electric vehicles, moving closer to its net zero carbon emissions target by 2030.
This £420,000 investment will replace ageing pick-up trucks and vehicles used for street cleaning and maintenance.
Additionally, the council will take over urban road verge cutting from Staffordshire County Council, requiring new mowers for more frequent maintenance. This aligns with Newcastle's status as the current Britain in Bloom champion, reinforcing its commitment to a tidy and sustainable environment.
